Planning Policy sets the long term planning strategy for the district (up to 2028). The service produces the Local Plan and covers heritage and countryside management.
National planning policies for England are set out by the government in the National Planning Policy Framework(link is external) (NPPF). Under the policy framework provided by the NPPF, local planning policies are set out in documents which are known as Local Plans.
Every council in England is required to have a dedicated plan that sets the rules for how the area should develop over time. This is called a Local Plan.
